Oregon Music Festival is an international, composer-focused festival of symphonic music. We celebrate composers of great genius, both those who are famous and those who deserve to be. Each season the festival concentrates on two or three composers who have made a unique contribution to the world of music. At the same time, we are continuing with our long-range exploration of the brilliant yet largely (and unduly) neglected works of Bohuslav Martinů and Alfred Schnittke.
This year, however, is unusual in terms of repertoire diversity. Instead of focusing on a select few masters, we are presenting a five-year composer retrospective, performing some of the masterworks which had to be left out in the past due to time constraints. In addition, and looming above it all stand the grand yet often misunderstood symphonies of Robert Schumann which dominate the programming and will receive a special, historically-informed reading.
We encourage you to come and explore this treasure trove of significant and marvelous works -- some of which are rarely heard. Enjoy the season!
