CHAMBER MUSIC: ULYSSES QUARTET
Sunday, June 25, 4:00 p.m. Olympia Provisions, Portland Ulysses Quartet Christina Bouey, violin Rhiannon Banerdt, violin Colin Brookes, viola Grace Ho, violoncello Stravinsky: Concertino for String Quartet Shostakovich: Quartet No. 10 in A-flat, Op. 118 Beethoven: String Quartet No. 5 in A Major, Op. 18 Ulysses Quartet is the 2016 winner of the Grand Prize and the Gold Medal of Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. This concert is produced in partnership between Oregon Music Festival and Fischoff Competition.
For their Portland premier, the Ulysses Quartet will perform Stravinsky's violent Concertino for String Quartet (imagine his Rite of Spring, but in quartet form), Shostakovich's dramatic and clarion Quartet No. 10 in A-flat and Beethoven's homage to Mozart, his String Quartet No. 5 in A Major. The Ulysses Quartet guides you through this rich musical landscape while you sit back with a glass of champagne and a plate of rich hors d'oeuvres at Olympic Mills, hosted by Olympia Provisions, Portland's favourite gourmet charcuterie. Hailing from Canada, the United States, and Taiwan, members have performed in prestigious halls such as Esterházy Palace, Carnegie Hall, and the Taiwan National Concert Hall. The group competed in the Semifinals Round of the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition and garnered a Career Development Grant. Recent and upcoming season highlights include appearances at the Louis Moreau Institute, Cohen Hall, University of Prince Edward Island, and Abravanel Hall, as well as the Schneider Concerts, Music Talks, Nth Degree, and NOVA chamber series. |
