Schumann's Piano Concerto
If you're going to do Schumann, you need a pianist of exquisite sensitivity and emotional depth. Meet Chi Yong Yun, currently finishing her doctoral studies at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign under acclaimed pianist Ian Hobson. Ms. Yun has been touring as a recitalist and active collaborative musician throughout the US, Prague, Italy, Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Philippines, and South Korea. First prize winner of numerous national and international competitions, Chi Yong Yun is a passionate pedagogue in support of young musicians, teaching masterclasses throughout the US and globally and is currently Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Piano Studies at Andrews University. Prior to Andrews University, held teaching positions at Indiana University, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Midwest School of Music, and Illinois Wesleyan University.
Chi Yong Yun believes Schumann to be the quintessential Romanticist, "I believe his lifelong emotional and mental struggles brought about a deeper insight into the extremities of the human spirit. His works consists of a spectrum of emotions and technical intricacies which gives the pianist limitless opportunity. As a pedagogue, this is extremely important as each students' imagination and emotions need to be stimulated and nurtured all the while holding to the appropriate stylistic conventions.
