Beethoven’s Seventh

  • First United Methodist Church 1838 Southwest Jefferson Street Portland, OR, 97201 United States (map)

Capping the 2023 seasons are three great works from the standard repertoire. Each one of them, in its own right, represents a singular achievement in the particular genre.

The featured keyboard work needs little introduction. Grieg’s stunningly beautiful piano concerto remains among the most beloved work in its genre and among the few that grace the pinnacle of the Romantic piano repertoire. Mendelssohn’s Overture to Midsummer Night’s Dream and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 are also the staple of great symphonic repertoire. The latter piece, though strictly speaking dating from high Classicism, in many ways takes us into the fire, tenderness, and expressivity of the Romantic era. This is a great way to mark OMF’s comeback after the pandemic and Oregon fires. We are here to stay and make great music happen for our community.
